God created male and female, Adam and Eve, in complete perfection and beauty. In His image and likeness God, Elohim, created man and his wife.
Adam was given the mandate to care and tend the garden (Genesis 2:15). That was his first assignment. Scholars tell us that the Garden, Paradise (Luke 23:43), was 1,200 square miles. Now that’s a pretty good piece of property, but it doesn’t cover the entire earth.
Adam and Even would have tended the Garden together. Obviously, once their first mandate was fulfilled they would have received a second. However, the enemy had a different plan. Jesus said the thief comes immediately to steal the Word (Mark 4:15). And that’s exactly what happened.
Once Adam and Eve were joined together, the enemy overtook a serpent and deceived him (Genesis 3:1-7). He used the serpent to get to the woman. Notice, when the enemy attacked, he did not focus on Adam but rather Eve. He understood that by targeting his wife, he would cause the man to fall.
Once the enemy got Eve’s attention off the commandment
he was able to deceive
and cause her to fall (Genesis 3:4-6). Once she fell, it became easier for the
man to fall. It’s important to note; Sin did not come into the world through
woman, but rather through man (Rom 5:12)! Once man committed sin, iniquity
was introduced into the world.
We understand there are two Adams and two Eves. Jesus was the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45), the Church, therefore, must be the last Eve. As they both failed in their assignment, it has been passed down to us.
Adam and Eve were both created of this world and thought according to the things of this world. Paul wrote “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45). Now we see Adam and Eve were both soulish. They were controlled by their soul, not their spirit.
Most Christians live in this realm. Whatever they feel,
sense, see, must be true. But God created man to have six senses, not five. The
sixth being our spirit.
Adam and Eve fell because both
simply had their minds on the things of this world.
Paul wrote, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians
3:2). Notice, this is a command. Each person must choose the things of God. He
will not do it for us.
Lord, I ask that You turn our
hearts toward You, Sir. Put it in each individual to “will and do [Your] good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). Forgive
each of us where we have missed it, and meditated on the things of this earth.
We desire You to be Lord of our hearts and desires, in Jesus’ name.
The Hebrew word Elohim is used for God in Gen 1:1. Therefore, Elohim is the creator God.
That mandate has sense been passed down to Jesus.
Brother Kenneth Copeland believes that Adam would have maintained the Garden and spread it throughout the entire earth.
According to Google, the earth is roughly 197 million square miles. So, if the Garden was 1,200 square miles, that tells us most of it was inhabitable by principalities, powers and rulers (Eph 6:12).
Woman was created to be a help meet for man. But the enemy twisted it, and now she has become a stumbling block. This is true of many people. Instead of most women encouraging their spouse in Christ they usually tear him down; unwilling to help fulfill the mandate upon his life.
Genesis 3:6 records, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise”. The enemy still uses this strategy today. He gets our eyes off the commandment of the Lord, and we start looking at the temptation. Once this happens then we “are dragged away by [our] own evil desire and enticed” (James 1:14).
It was the woman who was deceived. Adam wasn’t.
There are different types of iniquity. The one I’m speaking of here is the sinful nature which is passed down from generation-through-generation through man, not woman. When Jesus was born of a woman, He was able to escape the sinful nature (Gal 4:4).
As the Church of Christ, we have the same assignment, mandate, as Eve did—to be a “help meet” for Jesus (Gen 2:18).
The soul consists of the mind, the will, and the emotions. This is where the enemy sets up his kingdom. Jesus sets us His Kingdom in our hearts. (The heart of man and the spirit of man are the same thing.)
Adam, how to please his wife (1 Cor 7:33), and Eve how to please herself (Gen 3:6).
